Despite Visa Delays, Hinche Scholars Project Still Going Full Force… Buy Your Raffle Tickets!

January 25, 2011

Not too much news to report this week. We are still working on some federal bureaucratic issues in regard to obtaining U.S. student visas for the Hinche Scholars to attend B-SC. Thanks to all those who have lent their political support to help us overcome these obstacles.

Given these delays, we will very likely be preparing a second set of professors who will potentially travel to Hinche early this spring to provide another “mini-semester” with intensive ESL as well as other core classes.

In the meantime, we hope that you can take a moment and consider purchasing a raffle ticket to support our cause. We are now well into the second week of raffle ticket sales – for only $25 you can win a dream vacation – the Oprah Winfrey/Royal Carribean 7-day Cruise! Just follow this link – www.ihaveadreamrichmond.org  and be sure to encourage everyone you know to purchase a ticket. As of right now, we are far short of our selling goals and we need all the help we can get! Proceeds from the “IHAD Dream Vacation Raffle” go to scholarships for the Hinche Scholars.

Below is an excerpt from an email that we received recently from one of the Hinche Scholars, Lude Labieville. Her words are truly powerful and given the difficult political and social situation in Haiti at present, her optimism and hope is admirable. Lude is pictured below.

Dear Danny and I Have a Dream Foundation,

How are you? I’m sorry to hear about the delays but knowing how governments work slowly, it makes sense. This may take more time than we’re thinking. But please be strong and don’t give up. We do not give up. Because of you we have inspiration for each day. We practice our English each day and are thankful for the professors. This is all a plan of God. Thank you and do not lose your hope.
